The Bishop's Old Palace in Ely is Listed Grade I and includes buildings from the fifteenth century. Freeland Rees Roberts converted it to a Sue Ryder Home, including a new wing in the walled garden for patients with Huntington’s disease. The historic parts of the building were extremely dilapidated and, as well as making extensive repairs, the project addressed all the difficulties of incorporating modern healthcare accommodation - bathrooms, kitchens, services, lifts and staircases - in a manner sympathetic to historic spaces and building fabric.
