Client - The Foundation of Edward Storey Date of Completion - 2003
Built in 1974, Storey's House provides warden-controlled sheltered housing for elderly women. In 1999 we were commissioned to extend the existing building to provide new office accommodation, a large meeting room able to accommodate all the residents, a recreation room, conservatory, kitchen and additional facilities for people with disabilities.
An oval-shaped extension rises three floors with basement storage, offices at ground floor level, and an oval meeting/common room above. The oval element was picked out as solid wall construction, externally insulated and finished in self-coloured Sto render. Three new lifts connect all floors and link into the existing horizontal circulation. A new sun room was created which opens out onto a private courtyard garden and additional WCs and office facilities were created by extending the entrance foyer.
