Client – Private Developer Date of Completion – 2005
This development followed the demolition of a 1970s house in the centre of a 1/3 acre plot in the Fen Ditton Conservation Area which has a mixture of styles from thatched cottages to 1980s houses.
The two large family houses are set back from the road, separated but linked together by the garage range which runs to the front edge of the site. This is a recurring local detail and creates a forecourt area to both houses. They provide similar accommodation, one being a 5 bedroom, 2 bathroom house with study and conservatory, the other a 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom house with attic games room, home office and large conservatory.
Each is set into the existing garden with only subtle alterations to integrate them into the landscape. They use a traditional palette of materials: painted render walls sit on a red brick plinth, with purpose made stained timber windows, oak doors and timber conservatory. They are roofed in red clay plain tiles with traditional bonnet hip tiles.
