Texaco Garage Site, Huntingdon Road, Cambridge

This design for 43 flats provides a mixture of open market and social housing grouped around a central courtyard on the former garage site on an elevated site in the Castle Hill area of Cambridge with the potential for spectacular views from upper stories. The ground floor is raised slightly above street level to give some privacy on the busy corner and making room for an entrance to semi-basement parking at the lower end of the sloping site. To provide upper level apartments with balconies, and give some shielding from traffic and direct sun, it is intended to wrap the façade in a permeable skin of vertical bronze fins.
